Jennifer Messina of Children's Hospital of Colorado accepted two honors at the Gold Leaf Awards competition held on October 14, 2011. Both awards, "Gold Leaf: New Media Category" and "The Judges Choice, Grand Gold Leaf Award," were for Colorado Children's iPhone app, ChildrensMD. The Judge's Choice Award, i.e. "Best in Show" received the highest score of all entries submitted in all categories from healthcare institutions across Colorado.
Since the 1970s, Colorado Healthcare Communicators (CHC) has honored professionals in public relations, communications and marketing through our annual Gold Leaf Awards competition.
St. Louis Children's Hospital's mobile app, Kid Care, took home two Best in Class awards at the 2010 Greystone.Net and StayWell Custom Communications Conference.
The first award, "Best Use of Cross-Media Approaches," was granted due to the many media outlets the hospital has used to promote their app including: mommy blogs, Facebook, Twitter, banner ads, e-newsletter, on-hold messaging, several blog and web features, and even some unsolicited media from Cnet.com as one of the "Five Must-Have iPhone Apps for Parents." These media approaches led to 12,000 downloads as of August 2010, and a 400% increase in monthly traffic site to the section.
The second award, "Best Use of Mobile Strategy," was won due to the fact that "the app is a mobile strategy that connects the target audience with a familiar and comfortable mechanism." It is also an "on-the-go resource to interact with their community and provide general pediatric advice and information from a trusted source," according to St. Louis Children's, Kay Franks. Through the use of digital, social media, and traditional media opportunities, the app exceeded its goal for the first year by 300%.
